ABOUT JOAN HARLOW
Joan Harlow has been a summer resident of Monhegan since 1967, when she first came to stay with her great aunt Alice Kent Stoddard, a portrait artist from Philadelphia and first cousin to Rockwell Kent. Alice’s house and studio eventually became her own, and the oil paintings she produced there are both universal and personal. The landscape views are likely to be from her porch, and the still life, with her distinctive rendering of light and shadow, might capture a moment in the summer kitchen or a chair before a curtained window.
Harlow is a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, the Seacoast Art Association, and the Women Artists of Monhegan Island. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH.
