ABOUT BETSY ABBOTT
Inspired and encouraged by Island artists, especially Paul Niemiec, Betsy has become an accomplished quilt artist in her retirement, despite having no formal art training. A summer resident on Monhegan since 1947, she winters in North Andover, MA. “I have come to learn that my new-found passion for doing art had been growing ever since my first summer on the Island. I have been constantly enthralled by the sheer, natural wonders of this place: the variable light of its salt air, the sculpted forms of its rocky headlands, the unpredictable moods of its changing seas, the ‘wildness’ of all its natural life.” A member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and the Quilters’ Connection (MA), she has exhibited in juried regional and national quilt shows and, increasingly, in fine art venues.
