Alice Boynton
After receiving a degree in studio art from Ohio University and studying sumie painting with Masako Yamamoto, Alice Boynton worked as a textile designer and colorist in New York.
In 1978 she moved year round to Monhegan Island, where she has painted full time ever since. She studied painting with Don Stone; she is a member of Women Artists of Monhegan Island.
“I try to solve problems posed by traditional plein air painting. If I can satisfy the rules of western style painting and put the chi, the eastern requirement of life, or breath, into my work, then I feel that I have accomplished my goals in painting.”
